Do you ever feel you can't think because your minds over thinking?

Some studies suggest that we have around 60,000 - 80,000 thoughts per day (some actually suggest even more!) - which when broken down it's around 2,500 - 3,300 per hour - WOW!

Even if it was around 50,000 per day that's still 2,100 per hour - 35 thoughts per minute!!!

I find this truly amazing - It really is no wonder that in today's society we feel full of stress and worry and mental health problems are rising - because we have little chance of a calm mind.

As we start to come out of the 'enforced pause' in our life where most people have had to take a step back from 'the grind' or those who've not had that 'pleasure', have no doubt had multiple chaotic thoughts - triggered by stress and worry, leaving minds fit to burst. It is important for us all to try and take a moment to switch off even if it's for only 10 mins per day.

Having suffered from mental health issues over the years (those who know me know I make no secret of that, as I believe being open with people - might help them deal with things better) I have found things hard over this crazy time of not being able to work.

During this time of madness, this year has given us - there was a week near the beginning of lockdown, where I felt that I saw the 'dark spiral of negative thought' open up and it wanted me to go in. I didn't luckily, but I know how easy it would have been to do so. So since then, I have been trying to focus on giving my mind a time to relax and to switch off. I'm not going to say it's easy to do so because it's not - especially when your mind is like a monkey jumping from tree to tree I found I had to give up and try later in the day.

The ways I found helpful was to go for a walk - leaving my phone at home - so no distraction from the toxicity of social media and the need and addiction to keep checking it. Looking at the surroundings I'm walking helps to calm the mind - whether it's the architecture of buildings or the beautiful nature of the green trees and bird song.

Another way I have found is through listening to a recording.
